Strix

The rarest of the children of the Eldar, the Strix number no more than two thousand if estimates are to be believed. More so than either of their cousin races the Strix are wholly out of place on the material plane and still look upon their departure from the Fey Wyld as an unwarranted banishment. Strix are highly emotional creatures and tend to react in ways that others find extreme. Living in the twilight forest of the Fey Wyld has made the strix a naturally nocturnal race and while they do not have any adverse reaction to the sun they prefer to sleep the day away and remain active during the calm grace of the night. All strix are highly protective of their race and no strix would harm another unless given no other option and even then would use nonlethal force if possible.

Physical Description: Strix resemble humans in size and build, but are distinguished by their 12-foot feathered wingspan and strange facial features. Strix have pointed ears, slitted nostrils, and eyes without pupils which, due to their large size, appear to glow in the half-light of the evening. Their eyes are fixed within their head, so to look around they have to move their entire head making them look either slow and somber or jerky and skittish depending on how fast they move. Strix skin and hair color is dark in nature ranging from dark tans to jet black and the feathers of their wings match their skin tone closely. Strix stand just over six feet tall, but considering their size, are quite light, weighing around 170 pounds.

Society: Strix live together in groups known as flights. Flights are familial in nature but wholly different to what most races understand as a family. Flights are created as strix form bonds with one another and more bonds mean more members. Young strix are encouraged to join or create flights of their own as soon as their elders consider them old enough.Flights live together, hunt together, breed together, and raise children together until those children are old enough to find there own flight. Many flights group together to create nesting colonies for the protection of all.

Lands: Within a few of the great old forests and in some of the higher mountains the Stixs have developed a few nesting colonies. Colonies are always designed to use the existing protections and camouflage of the natural world. Couple this fact with the sheer distance above the ground that colonies are built and it’s easy to understand why no one seems to know where a single colony lies. Most Strixs that live outside of a colony tend to reside in one of the reclaimed elven cities.

Religion/Mysticism: Though the Strixs feel that they were wronged by the Fey Lords by being sent to the material plane, they avidly maintain the worship of their Lords hoping to one day be returned to the realm they still consider their home. Similarly to Elves sorcery bloodlines run deep within the Strixs.

Relations: Strix have good relations with the elves and seem to have better relations with the drow than any other race, even the elves. As most strix are reclusive they tend to group all the other races together, not generally understanding or caring that there is a difference between dwarf, orc, human, etc. Strix are normally neutral or possibly apathetic to all the other races but their tendency to be emotional leads to drastic changes in a strix’s attitude with each interaction.
